It literally pays to plan your 2019 Central South Carolina outdoor living project now!

save money by scheduling your outdoor project nowArchadeck of Central South Carolina is ready to help you get a jumpstart on your upcoming outdoor living project to save you money.  Don’t let your project become a casualty of avoidable, untoward circumstances!

You might think this simply is not the time to be thinking about your 2019 outdoor living building project.  Archadeck of Central SC implores you to not only think about it, but to begin working with us to design your project now.  Why do we feel so strongly about acting now?  We are barreling towards the end of 2018. As your Central SC outdoor living designer and builder, we want to make sure you know we usually see pricing increases on outdoor building materials after year-end.  As 2019 rolls around, and manufacturers’ price increases roll out, your Columbia SC sunroom, Lake Murray patio and outdoor fireplace, or Central SC deck project will cost more. If you sign a contract with us by December 31 to build your project, you can lock in 2018 prices.

Other variables, such as a strong economy, also adversely affect materials costs and project timelines.  Less available workforce equates to longer project delivery times.  All the more reason to act now.  Keep your project on time and on budget by getting ahead of these unfortunate construction trends!

Need a guide to getting started?

We know this is a busy time of year.  Time-eating holidays and end-of-year preparations are likely in motion in our professional and private lives.  We will assist you in every phase of your project, to make it as fluid a process as possible.  Here are a few steps that will see you through!

  1. Call us at (803) 603 – 2160. This is not the task you want to put off till tomorrow.  Our outdoor living experts are at the ready to get your project underway.

2. Gather all your Pinterest inspiration and have it ready for us. When we visit your home for your free design consultation, we want to see your design ideas and outdoor living ambitions.  Have questions for us?  Fire away – we’ll be ready!

3. Contemplate your outdoor living goals. The design of your outdoor living project is all about the way you imagine living in your space.  A hardscape patio and fire pit will offer a spot for private relaxation or entertainment outdoors.  A screened porch and outdoor fireplace will extend your indoor creature comforts to the outdoors.  A custom sunroom will give you three or four seasons of comfortable indoor/outdoor living.  How do you see yourself living in a new outdoor space?

4. Consider the materials you would like to use in your new space, such as stone choices for your patio and low-maintenance options for your custom deck. We will educate you about the benefits of the various options for materials based on your outdoor living goals.

These Lost Creek homeowners get an outdoor room with a view — and much more!

View overlooking private pond from Columbia SC Sunroom by Archadeck of Central SCAre you craving an outdoor room with a view for your Columbia, SC, home?

If you answered yes, then our recent Harbison-area Columbia sunroom and deck addition in the Lost Creek neighborhood is sure to inspire you to act upon your cravings…

When the homeowners reached out to Archadeck of Central SC, they had a traditional pressure-treated wooden deck, which served as their sole outdoor living space. The homeowners wanted their outdoor living space to be more conducive for year-round enjoyment and while using smart, low-maintenance materials.

Since their beautiful home sits on a private lake in their Harbison-area neighborhood, it only made sense to create a space that enabled indoor and outdoor enjoyment, made the most of their stunning lakeside view and was a breeze to maintain!

Columbia SC Sunroom and Deck Combination in Lost Creek

Archadeck of Central SC designed and built this deluxe outdoor living space that includes a custom sunroom and an elevated Trex composite deck with white vinyl railing. Trex was the inventor of wood-alternative composite decking. Choosing Trex for this lakeside deck helped us achieve the low-maintenance, high-performance backyard retreat these homeowners had in mind.

The spacious and airy sunroom is accessible from two separate deck entrances. The vaulted design and large gable-end windows ensure the room is bathed in natural light. The interior of the sunroom boasts a ceramic tile floor, sliding windows and a Mitsubishi mini-split ductless heating & AC unit. This system provides zoned comfort solutions for year-round comfort and is up to 40% more efficient than traditional HVAC systems.

PLANNING A NEW OUTDOOR LIVING SPACE IS A GREAT WAY TO GROUND HOLIDAY JET LAG

Columbia Detached covered porchThe New Year has arrived! As we begin to work towards our resolution goals it is often hard to remain focused. January, in itself, can be a time of renewal but it can also be a time that leaves you yearning for the excitement and merriment you felt during the holidays. Many even refer to January as the month of holiday jet lag.

Archadeck of Central SC wants you to know that one way to curb the post-holiday blues is to look beyond the winter doldrums to warmer months ahead.  With this in mind, many Central SC homeowners may begin planning for the outdoor living season. These plans may involve a new addition to your landscape or outdoor living space.  Whether your aspirations include adding a new outdoor structure, or improving or adding to an existing structure,  winter is a good time to get the ball rolling.

Because of our mild southern climate, we may be able to begin construction on your project as soon as your design is finalized and the contract is signed. In fact, the sooner we can start building, the more enjoyment you will get from your new outdoor living space. Once spring has arrived, demand will increase and building timelines will become longer. This is why we recommend starting the design and building process with us as soon as possible. Using these winter months perfecting the design of your new space, ordering materials and filing for permits is a perfect use of time.

In fact, there are quite a few reasons why winter is the best time to begin a new Columbia-area outdoor living space  project:

  • Central SC Sunrooms give you a front row seat to Mother NatureOur custom deckporch and sunroom designs require close collaboration with you. This process can take a few rounds of going back and forth, making adjustments and getting the project just right.
  • Securing building permits can take a long time as we are at the mercy of the local building department. Starting this process now means you don’t have to let the good spring weather pass you by while we are waiting for building permits to come in.

At Archadeck of Central SC, our spring and summer construction schedules fill fast. In fact, spring is our busiest time of year. If you start the process now, you beat the rush and are on the schedule for construction — or your project may even be completed — when others are just starting their process.

Transforming this Lexington, SC, screened porch into a sunroom was like child’s play

Lexington Sunroom AdditionOne of our most recent sunroom projects is located in Lexington, SC. What makes this addition so interesting is the fact Archadeck of Central SC converted this homeowners’ existing screened porch into a sunroom to better fit their needs.

Since the homeowners have small children, they really wanted to extend the space within the home for play. A sunroom can serve many purposes. In this instance, the new sunroom makes the perfect place for creative play with the abundant natural light and view into the outdoors.Lexington Sunroom Addition

Natural light is always an asset in any home. The more sun you have entering a space, the more open and inviting the space will appear. When you have the sun working for you full time, it cuts down on daytime heating costs, too. However, the more daylight you have in the home, the more you risk overexposing furnishings and interior finishes to the sun. Solar gain, heat loss and UV infiltration are issues we wanted to keep at a minimum as part of this project.

Sunroom in Lexington SCFor this gable roof sunroom, Archadeck of Central SC installed low-E windows. Low-E windows (low-E stands for low emissivity) are simply windowpanes coated in microscopic layers of metallic oxides. The coating is invisible to the naked eye, allowing as much natural light into the house as possible. Though transparent, this coating will protect your home from unwanted UV rays that can burn your skin, fade your carpets and damage your furniture. Plus, it also helps to control radiant heat (infrared light) as it enters and leaves a room. In essence, it keeps your house warmer in the winter by reflecting certain segments of the sun’s light spectrum back into the home and cooler in the summer by reflecting particular segments outside. This saves money on utility expenses while creating a more comfortable living environment inside.

Exterior of Lexington SC SunroomWe used the ceiling that was original to the existing screened porch. However, one special feature of this sunroom is the creative design used on the floor. The homeowners chose ceramic tile and we had it installed in a unique elongated pattern rather than a traditional square or rectangle — the result is quite striking!

The clients are elated with the new sunroom, and their children love it even more! Many happy memories are ahead in the new room — imaginative play and creativity as growing minds explore the changing seasons from their new playroom!

When it comes to sunrooms — you don’t know what you’ve been missing until you have it

Central SC Sunrooms give you a front row seat to Mother NatureThey say you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone but when it comes to owning an Archadeck of Central South Carolina sunroom,  you don’t know what you’ve been missing until you have it!

In the 13+ years we have served the Columbia SC area in designing and building custom outdoor living spaces, I have heard clients comment time and again about how their new sunroom has turned into the most loved, and used, room in their home — and with good reason. Sunrooms offer a kind of versatility and freedom you just can’t get with a traditional interior or outdoor room addition. Light and airy, the term sunroom alone whisks the imagination to a place where only positive energy resides. The sun is viewed as a source of health, energy and healing among many cultures. Our ancestors understood the relation between the sun and good health. From the Aztecs to the ancient Egyptians, many past societies revered the act of sun gazing as a sacred practice. This ritual is not too far beyond the way we now enjoy watching the rising and setting of the sun.

This spacious sunroom in Columbia, SC, delivers versatility within the home

Having a room where natural light is abundant can greatly enhance your mood and the entire feel of your home.  A sunroom is a great option for Columbia-area homeowners who are looking for an addition that will increase their quality of life and overall satisfaction with their home. A sunroom supports leisurely living and increases square footage — often with lower construction costs than adding on a fully finished room.

Did we mention how versatile a sunroom can be? There are many ways to enjoy a sunny retreat right at home. These features will make your sunroom comfortable, inviting and entertaining:

Archadeck sunroomA sunroom can serve as a multi-purpose room — A TV room, a playroom, a place for Mom’s getaway or Dad’s nap… a sunroom can be different things to each family member.

Indoor garden room — A transitional space between the indoors and outdoors begs for thriving potted plants as the connecting element.

A sunroom can serve as the ultimate home office — If you have a table in your sunroom, you can use the space as a home office. A supportive chair, a Wi-Fi connection and a view to your back yard will make for a productive morning.

A sunroom can serve as a dining room for special occasions and holidays — if you have a large group dinner on the calendar or a special event, a sunroom provides the perfect place to set up your celebratory meal. Ample table space, lighting and air circulation, plus proximity to the kitchen, is sure to make for an unforgettable event.

Christmas sunroom by Archadeck of ChicagolandA sunroom as a craft room or less formal living room — You can use this room as an opportunity to be playful with creative and salvaged pieces you don’t deem appropriate to display in your formal spaces.

Finally, a place to display a towering Christmas tree — If you have always wanted to choose the tallest tree on the lot during the holidays, many sunroom designs can easily accommodate larger holiday trees! Sunrooms often feature cathedral or vaulted ceilings that extend beyond the traditional 8′-10′ ceiling height.

At Archadeck of Central South Carolina, our ultimate goal is to create a sunroom that blends seamlessly into the existing architecture of your home by helping you choose materials that match or complement your home perfectly while providing the freedom and versatility to make your new room anything you want it to be!

Our Recent Sunroom Addition in Lexington, SC, is Oh So Satisfying

Lake Murray Sunroom Addition, Lexington SCOur most recent sunroom addition is located on the Lexington side of beautiful Lake Murray. Though the sunroom is on a smaller scale than many of our outdoor room projects, it satisfies and serves the function these homeowners had in mind.

As you can see from the “before” image, the back yard originally consisted of a wooden deck with stair access to the side yard and into the patio on the opposite side. When we met for the design consultation, the homeowners were looking for a way to enjoy the scenic views of the lake from their back yard, but in a conditioned space to keep them cool and dry.

Before

The heavy, dense design of the railing on their existing deck made it difficult to enjoy the views from within their home. It was only natural that a sunroom offering as much glass as possible, along with a way to heat and cool the space, was the perfect answer. Here at Archadeck, we realize that small spaces have every opportunity to add as much enjoyment and benefit as large spaces do, and this serene sunroom addition is proof!

Sunroom on Lake Murray

After

Archadeck of Central South Carolina designed and built this light and airy sunroom to speak to the homeowners’ needs. It features wide glass windows and a glass knee wall, which is somewhat unusual and perfect for this space!  We also added dual wooden stairs, mimicking the footprint of the original deck, which lead to the side yard and into the homeowners’ patio, just as before.

Investing in a custom sunroom is a wise decision for many reasons. Even if the sunroom does not encompass a large area, the added square footage potentially increases the value of your home. Sunroom additions also increase the heated and cooled interior space that you can enjoy year-round.

An Allergy-Free Outdoor Room?

‘Tis the season for pollen and all that implies. Yes, pollen is a sign of beneficial changes occurring in our spring landscapes. And yes, it means the poetic evolution of colorful flowers, lush green foliage and a healthy ecosystem.  However, for those who suffer from seasonal allergies, the arrival of pollen puts a damper on enjoying the outdoors.

Many of us, to some degree, feel the effects of seasonal allergies. Symptoms can range from a little sneezing to severe respiratory problems. According to WebMD, one in five Americans has allergy or asthma symptoms with 55% of the population testing positive to one or more allergens. Additionally, the allergy season has become longer with the ragweed and pollen season increasing by 4 weeks over the last 15 years. Taking all of this into consideration, and the fact that spring through fall are the favored seasons to partake in outdoor living and recreation — what are we to do?

Archadeck sunroom

Allergies can make it difficult to relax on your backyard deck or patio without succumbing to the effects. Fortunately, Archadeck of Central SC has an answer to help reduce the negative effects and enjoy the outdoors — an outdoor room. Outdoor rooms such as a 3-season room or sunroom provide a layer of protection from uncomfortable outdoor temperatures, insects, debris such as dirt, pollen and other allergens, as well as the elements.

Columbia, SC three season room with rustic beadboard ceiling, ample dining and seating areas complete with a cozy outdoor fireplace.

In addition to keeping the negative aspects of the season at bay, an outdoor room adds value and versatility to your home. Sunshine, which is plentiful within a sunroom or three-season room, is beneficial to physical and mental health, improving a person’s outlook and increasing energy. A sunroom will allow you to take full advantage of a climate-controlled panoramic view of the beauty and interest in your very own backyard, season after season. Experience the feeling of being outside without actually having to deal with the elements making you sneeze, or itch!
